Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) delivers a wide range of health and wellbeing services to more than 6500 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Broome region.

BRAMS has recently been accepted as a trial site to implement a project to deliver a Family and Domestic Violence program through AHCWA. The project aims to:
- Provide a culturally responsive and holistic FDV service, including case management and wrap-around support;
- Provide a crisis response; and
- Raise awareness of FDV in the community through culturally responsive education.
About the Role
The purpose of this position is to provide professional and confidential counselling to Aboriginal women and children who have experienced or are experiencing family and domestic violence, in order to effectively reduce risks to their safety and enable long term recovery. This position combines a practice approach that is holistic, flexible, trauma informed, culturally responsive and person centered.
TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU WILL:
- Have demonstrated experience or understanding of health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people;
- Demonstrated understanding and application of Family and Domestic Violence models and theories; and
- Tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Health Sciences, Psychology, Behavioural and Social Services or relevant equivalent studies and extensive experience in counselling, welfare or health fields.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Tertiary qualifications in Counselling, Social Work, Health Sciences, Psychology, Behavioural and Social Services or relevant equivalent studies and extensive experience in counselling, welfare or health fields.
- Membership (or at least eligibility for membership) and registration in relevant professional associations, such as the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) and/or the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
DESIRABLE
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, families and children – specifically Aboriginal women and children who are experiencing family and domestic violence.
- A minimum of twelve months prior experience in a family violence focused role.
- Demonstrated experience in direct clinical service provision through various counselling and/or therapeutic interventions to women victim survivors of family violence, and/or their children in crisis or recovery situations.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, including the use of Microsoft Office applications, clinical record and data management systems.
- Knowledge and experience of different clinical procedures, tools, workflows, standard and models of care relevant to counselling practice or other healthcare settings.
- Ability to develop productive working relationships with stakeholders.
- Effective time management skills, the ability to prioritise and work to strict deadlines.
- Effective conflict resolution skills, negotiation, mediation and decision-making skills.
